PKP Cargo and PKP Energetyka have signed a ten-year contract which provides the carrier with supplies of diesel oil for traction vehiclesat fuel stations owned by PKP Energetyka. The companies are also discussing the possibility of supplementing their offer with hydrogen solutions in the future.

The contract was concluded for 10 years (from January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2030) and its total value is net PLN 718,250,000.00. It secures the continuity of fuel supply for PKP Cargo by successively purchasing diesel oil for traction vehicles at 18 PKP Energetyka’s fuel stations throughout Poland. This is another long-term contract between the companies; the previous one was in force in the years 2013-2020.

“We have been using the services of PKP Energetyka for a long time and we are satisfied with this cooperation. That is why we decided to sign a new, long-term contract. The purchase of diesel oil is of strategic importance for our company, as approximately half of our fleet consists of diesel locomotives, which we use for shunting operations and linear works”, says Czesław Warsewicz, President of PKP CARGO S.A. “We also observe with curiosity the work on further extension of PKP Energetyka's offer, among others by the fuel of the future - hydrogen”, added Czesław Warsewicz.

“The contract with the largest Polish freight carrier is for us a confirmation of the quality of the services provided, but also a commitment to further work for our Client. We have a common goal to increase the competitiveness of rail transport. We have been implementing this through a timely and reliable supply of conventional fuels, but we have been working on innovative solutions in parallel. Together we have been developing a model of PKP Cargo's transition to power supply of buildings and infrastructure from RES sources. We are also working on supplementing our offer with the possibility of hydrogen refueling. According to our analyses, the growing potential of the railroad sector should be met by 50 hydrogen stations by 2028,” added Wojciech Orzech, President of PKP Energetyka.

PKP CARGO and PKP Energetyka are long-standing partners, with both companies pursuing the sector goal development in such initiatives as the Luxtorpeda Cluster or the Railway Energy Efficiency Centre.
